I recently decided to reiterate the challenge 'a day = a drawing' of Inktober because I've really enjoyed this exercise.
Following the suggestion of a very dear relative, I have chosen for this new challenge a topic that seems terribly absurd and infertileat first sight: CHAIRS!
Yes, you've heard me well: chairs, nothing more! Starting today, November 15, 2015, I intend to draw one chair a day, every day until the 15th of December, as I did all October with the Pokémons.
For the first element of the series, I must admit I had many difficulties to set to work, because, as i'm french, I was very touched by the attacks in Paris. I saw on the Internet tons of drawing tributes, and I thought, Why wouldn't I make one too? I've tried several different ways, I've squiggled sketches using blue, white, red. But nothing worked, I could not find anything. I tried to participate in this momentum of solidarity, because I thought I couldn't avoid it, as an artist. But then again, I was disturbed by all those drawings, I had the impression that their authors were embarking on a race of "who's making the best tribute?" trying to make the best of these tragic events in order to glean some visibility as an artist. Moreover, they only talk about Paris, there's nothing about Beirut and the other recent attacks that happened in the world...
Finally, I've simply decided to do hint at it, and my personal tribute will open simultaneously to my new challenge, with a lonely chair, empty and bereaved.
All my thoughts turn to the victims' families of all those attacks. In the upcoming days, months, and years, they will face chairs as empty as this one. The absence and emptiness, will be their daily lot once this of wave of emotion will be behind them . I wish they'll always find the support they need.
